Mobile

After 16 days, Claire Lomas completed the London Marathon. This, at first glance, may not trigger applause. Adding an asterisk to 16 days to note that Claire is paralyzed from the chest down, and, perhaps, still no applause-a stunned silence, as it were.

In this event, the picture fails to capture a thousand words; while the robotic legs that assisted her in the accomplishment are amazing in their own mechanic right, as any exceptional athlete will attest, mind over matter is the proof in the pudding.

Ms. Lomas said she spent the night in hotels along the way and was diligent and precise in marking her stopping point at the end of each day, stipulating that she never cheated with the exactness of these marks.

From the vantage point of a seated position before a glowing computer screen, 26 miles sounds brutal no matter what (this blog is not exactly a proponent of "running" activities), however, the mind set of Claire is enviable in that mildly, ironically discouraging way that elicits the question, "If it were I who [blank/blank/blank] could/would I?" ...It shall be pondered over a walk, indeed.

Life sometimes can be mobile.
